Enrichment Opportunities at Sawston Village College

Sawston Village College believes strongly that there should be more to school than simply examination results and it works hard to provide an enrichment and extra curricular activities programme to suit pupils of all interests and abilities. These include particular strengths in the arts, with one of the best Music Departments in Cambridgeshire offering opportunities for pupils to perform at leading venues and work alongside leading composers, conductors and musicians. The Drama Department regularly visits local and West End theatre venues, supported by the College's close affiliation with Sawston Youth Drama, one of the region's leading youth theatre companies.  The College is also developing a national and international reputation for the quality of its work in film and cinema. Sawston Village College has the only youth-led cinema in the country, and the film making groups have produced work that has been shown at international film festivals, winning awards and many plaudits. Needless to say the College is proud to have been awarded ArtsMark Plartinum and is one of the very few schools in the country to have earned this recognition.

The College also provides opportunities outside of the arts, reflected in our accreditation as an Investing in Community Engagement Award school from the SSAT. There are strong partnerships with the Rotary Club (of which Sawston Village College holds special Companionship Status) supporting the youth speaks debating competition; a rich extended schools' provision, with courses in First Aid, access to sports clubs, cooking, pottery to name but four; there is a vibrant Duke of Edinburgh programme; homework and study support clubs after school; two STEM clubs; chess club at lunchtime - and so on. In fact the enrichment programme is one of the strengths of the College that pupils regularly refer to when asked to say what they like about SVC - that no matter what the ability level is, no matter the interest, there is usually something for our young people to develop and explore, and if not, we are always willing to consider new ideas.
