Henry Morris Community Trust

We formally constituted our trust, The Henry Morris Community Trust, on 24 November. In addition to ourselves, our members are Icknield and Stapleford primary schools; John Huntingdon’s Charity, The Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, and the National Education Trust (NET). The inclusion of the Diocesan Board of Education as a Trust partner allows us to include our partner primary schools that are Church schools.

The Trust’s aims are:

  • to raise achievement through collaboration;
  • sustain and develop work in support of vulnerable children, young people and their families; and
  • to contribute to community cohesion.

We are launching our first major project with NET next July focusing on raising aspiration. Year 6 pupils from our Trust partner schools, Icknield and Stapleford will join those from another primary school from the City of Cambridge for a conference at the College. It will be facilitated by older pupils from the College, who, being about to embark on further education, training or employment, will be in a good position to talk to Year 6 about what it means to leave school. We hope to host workshops led by representatives from a range of professions and trades where children will be able to find out what the job entails and what skills and knowledge they need to get into it. There will also be an opportunity for the children to discuss their ambitions and make plans about their forthcoming secondary education.

We believe that the Trust has the power to add capacity to the work of the school and look forward to contributing to the development of its work in the coming months.
