Examination Results 2017: Information for Parents and Pupils

23rd June 2017

As you will be aware this summer has seen pupils sitting the new, more challenging GCSEs in English and Maths, the start of a 3 year programme that will involve all subjects in the curriculum being 'reformed' to become more demanding and transition to the new 9-1 grading system.

The Department for Education, Ofqual (the exams regulator) and Ofsted have all been very clear that the new exams are a significant change in GCSEs and that this year's results cannot be compared to previous years.  Interpreting these results - both for individual pupils as well as the whole cohort - will therefore be challenging, as the methodology for awarding grades has changed together with the knowledge and skills assessed in the exam papers.

We have therefore provided links below to documents that parents and pupils may find helpful in answering frequently asked questions about new exams, and what they mean for pupils and schools.
