Duke of Edinburgh Award
36 students from Yr. 9 and 10 were successfully selected to participate in Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award this year.
The bronze and silver award consists of 4 elements: Physical recreation, Skill, Service and Expedition. The award is about learning to be more independent through experiencing new activities (skill), developing or experiencing a new sport (physical recreation), helping others (service) and being completely independent during the walking/camping (expedition).
The Yr. 9 and 10 groups have recently been for a walk around the Linton area. They worked on navigating, looking for indicators of where they really are, using the footpaths, developing walking safety skills (country code). This will enable them to be completely self reliant, within their group of 4-7, with all the equipment and food needed. Eventually the groups will plan their route in which they will walk over 2 days with a camping stop over. All the equipment needed will be carried on their backs (or within the group).
There are drop in sessions available each week. This gives any participant the chance to ask questions or resolve any problems. Week A Tuesday from 1.25pm in SC5 (next to the student centre)
Week B Wednesday from 1.25pm in SC5
